Artifacts
Project type
Glass blowing and copper
Date
December 05
Location
Swansea
This project was developed in response to the Artifacts brief in collaboration with Swansea Museum. It explores my ongoing interest in medieval cage forms, focusing on restraint, protection, and display. The ambiguous, animal-like shape invites curiosity, echoing the symbolic qualities of medieval tapestries, while chains and a bound structure suggest something once valuable, dangerous, or sacred being contained.
The aged green patina gives the impression of an object recovered over time. Combining fragile glass with heavy metal creates a tension between vulnerability and control, resulting in a piece that sits between contemporary object and artefact, and invites the viewer to imagine its history and purpose.
